Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has been ruled out for at least a month with a mysterious hamstring injury. Ben Arfa picked up the injury against Maritimo in the Europa League, but returned to play against Fulham last Monday. He was then substituted off and scans revealed damage to the hamstring. However Pardew has said that Ben Arfa has experienced no symptoms to the injury, but that the machines were diagnosing it.

The latest development is that the Frenchman will be out for up to four weeks, missing Premier League games against Queens Park Rangers, Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton and possibly the FA Cup game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Pardew said;

“There is a danger he could tear his hamstring. If he did that he would be out for 2 or 3 months whereas if we do it the right way and be sensible about it, it may only be three weeks and obviously this is the route we are going to take.

From now until January it is going to be a dogfight. We have got to accept that and dog our way out of it and make sure we beat QPR, then hopefully get something at Manchester United.

They are the next two on the agenda. In the last four games it is very difficult to say that we have only got three points out of them. You can just see there’s not a lot really wrong but unfortunately we haven’t got a points total that reflects the work we are putting in”.
