Police Investigate Alleged Racism Towards Newcastle Fans

Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov is being investigated by Northumbria Police after two Newcastle United fans from Albania allegded to police that they were racially abused by the Serbian international. The allegations centre around an incident said to have taken place as he warmed up infront of the home fans, he is alleged to have racially abused the two fans holding an Albanian flag.

The police confirmed the investigation shortly after yesterday's match in a statement which read;

''Northumbria Police has received a report of racist language having been used at the St James' Park stadium during the Newcastle United v Manchester City match today.

'Northumbria Police takes such allegations extremely seriously and inquiries are ongoing into the incident.''

Reports today suggest that the player will be questioned by police next week, whilst both clubs will refrain from commenting at this time.

Kolarov came on for Samir Nasri in the 37th minute of the game and left the field in the 71st minute with an injury.

Agreed Dave really, though without sounding like racism is not important - because it is. But every week now there seems to be more and more said about it and it seems to be getting out of control.

I think there needs to be a lot more respect from both sides of things, though it is still the minority involved, it does seem to drift into society in this country more and more.

I agree and again without wanting to to say it's not important, I can't understand how you can get a 5 game ban for calling someone names, yet a three game ban for breaking someones leg.

Is it that its getting worse of that people are now actually complaining about it and people are being forced to act on those complaints?

The fans are also set to be "quizzed by police". They are reported to have approached stewards at half time before they reported to the police.

I hate to be on the side of thee opposition but taking an albanian flag must of been pre-meditated waving it at a Serbian is about the same as waving an Israeli flag at a Palestinian.

There was no chance he wasn't going to react.

Perhaps the provocation should be taken into account (i am not taking sides because of my surname honestly)

But what the hell does Albania have to do with St James' anyway?
