Newcastle United travel to Old Trafford tomorrow evening for their 3rd round Capital One Cup (League Cup) tie against Manchester United. Manager Alan Pardew is expected to rest some of his first team with the side playing twice a week at the moment, but is also expected to bring back two key players.

Fabricio Coloccini and Cheik Tiote could both start after recovering from injury. Tiote (calf) who came on as a substitute against Norwich City on Sunday, couldn’t have been accused of not getting stuck in, after picking up yet another yellow card, whilst Coloccini is yet to play after a hamstring problem.

Rob Elliot could return in goal, after a good game in the Europa League last week, leaving Steve Harper fresh for the Reading game on Saturday.

Meanwhile Tim Krul (elbow) and Danny Simpson (hamstring) remain absent.

Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to name Darren Fletcher in his starting line up, for the first time in 10 months, whilst De Gea is a possibility in goal.

The bad news for Fergie this week has been the confirmation that Nemanja Vidic has been ruled out for up to 8 weeks with a knee injury.

Pardew’s side can go into the game with some confidence after picking up 4 points from League games against Manchester United last season, with a 3-0 win at St James’ Park and a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, however their performance this season has been anything but consistent and they must go into the game wanting the win if they are to do well.

Fact: Newcastle United haven’t won away against  Manchester United in 40 years. Their last win came in 1972.

Fact: Manchester United have won 31 of 37 League Cup games at Old Trafford and lost just 4.

Second half has been better for us.

Was watching on TV in a different room.

Personally Tavernier stood out to me. Thought he played well, and will probably have been looking at the extra games with the intention of pushing into the squad. If it wasn't for Ryan's free kicks setting him apart, I'd think he might have serious competition

Gosling didn't do much. Dangerous positions occasionally, but poor technique. His passing was particularly poor too. Not a great night for him.

Overall, biggest disappointment was the lack of finishing from the pair who started. The fact that Cisse got a goal and seemed to be growing in confidence is the biggest positive to take away IMHO.

I agree about Gosling. He's an average footballer and I wouldn't want to see himm appear regularly in our first team.

Funnily I thought we played better last night than we did on Sunday.

Cisse looked to be regaining some form, which is about time.

I can't bring myself to care that much about this cup, so given the fact that we have way to many games, and too small of a squad I am not that bothered about going out.

Fergusson I thought was bright when he came on, and Shola had a decent game.

Williamson, still needs to learn that every ball does not have to be a hoof up field, but he was decent enough, Obertan again does not seem to have any real purpose (or point for that matter).

But second half we were the better side.
