Newcastle United have had their offer for Lille defender Mathieu Debuchy rejected as it doesn't meet the expectations of the clubs valuation for the player. The 27 year old has been linked with Newcastle for the majority of the summer, but Lille president Michel Seydoux has now told the French media he is going nowhere.

After it emerged that Newcastle had tabled a revised and improved bid, Seydoux was quoted in L'Equipe saying;

"I have decided that Mathieu Debuchy will remain at LOSC. The offer from Newcastle is definitely not at the value of the player.

For Mathieu Debuchy to leave, it would have taken the offer to be consistent and commensurate with his replacement.

As the conditions are not met, it is my duty to make a decision."

Debuchy has made it clear he is keen on a move to the Premier League but Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, is not known for repeatedly upping the bids to secure a player and meet the demands of another club.

Fellow frenchman, former Lille midfielder and current Newcastle United player, Yohan Cabaye told this week how Debuchy wanted the move to the North East. He told The Journal;

"Mathieu has made a very difficult to decision to leave Lille, but he has made the decision. Now I hope Newcastle push for Mathieu and I want them to do the deal.

I spoke with him two days ago and he told me he wants to come. I hope Derek (Llambias) and  Mike Ashley will do the business now.

He wants to play for Newcastle and I hope that he comes to Newcastle because, of course, he is my friend, but also a very good player for Newcastle."

Hope AP has a back up in mind.
We haven't really signed anyone yet! No disrespect to the youngsters we've signed.
At least none of our big players have left

Think this one is dead in the water now as at 27 his age means unlikely to raise offer again due to sell on value !
Maybe time to try Simpsons contract negotiations again

We have been having discussions with Ajax about a double swoop for Anita and Van Der Wiel apparently, but I think Wiel was waiting to see what the outcome of this was. Apparently he is available at a knock down price because his contract is up next year.

Debuchy would be good but if not Van Der Wiel would be an adequete replacement.

Heard about Anita but not the other ! Where is this story from anywhere reliable ? Be good if true as shows an improvement from the board to have contingency plans in place
Still hoping to hear something on this Douglas deal supposedly waiting on him gaining nationality before moving hope that one also goes through

The feeling in the Italian press for what it's worth is he is still going to Newcastle Lille are just attempting to push the price up again.

Debuchy on the looks of it will push through the transfer, so fingers crossed we can get it sorted quickly.

Never heard of Van Der Wiel, but if he is good then hopefully the Toon will get him as well

This could now work in our favour if he does push for a transfer , if Ashley/llambias stay true to form and the offer was a take it or leave it deal as they usually are then when Lille make the call to say their willing to do business they may well drop the offer down a bit and get him cheaper than first planned ! They should make a serious offer now for another fullback like van der wiel to put pressure on

It is great if we get him that little bit cheaper, but at the same time we need to get him, so if it means paying that little bit more to get it over the line then so be it. The season is nearly here now and how much could it cost if we dropped points by not having him

I think he is a great player - but need?

Of the known targets, I believe he would improve our squad the most - but I wouldn't be held to ransom over him.

Personally, I thought £6-7m was fair and I'll stick with that. I'd understand if the chairman is still a little sore about Cabaye though...to me that seems to be the most likely reason for turning down the bids. He's trying to make up some of the difference between what we paid for Cabaye and Cabaye's true worth (whom I would have valued at closer to £8m from what I saw of him last season)

Edit: Van Der Wiel is a very highly rated fullback. However, I find it very unlikely we'd be able to bring him in - despite his rather poor performance in the Euros. Ajax are already annoyed with the alleged interest in Anita - for Van der Wiel we'd surely be held to ransom.

You said it yourself . The seasons nearly here now ! so doesn't matter who we get as there's gonna be no pre season for them with us and gonna take a few weeks/months at the start of the season to adapt to the team and simpson will probably be first choice to begin with
