Sound like both club and player are playing hardball just hope they can reach middle ground on this as I think Simpson is highly underrated . The amount of goal line clearances he produced this season was a massive part of our success .
I know he isn't world class and never will be but he puts in an honest shift and (touch wood) doesn't pick up to many injuries . He is kinda like our Gutierrez of defence - not the best in the world but works hard for the team

It has been talked alot on here, with mixed views. I do think that the money that has been talked about of what he is on, then he will go, as I am sure he would double his wages if he went to a QPR.

The interesting thing will what will happen if he doesn't sign, will he be sold this season or walk away on a free

He gets a lot of flak, but I like him. He isn't a world beater, but he's definitely good enough to play in the Premier League.

There is talk that we're taking Crystal Palace to a tribunal to agree a compensation settlement for Nathaniel Clyne, but even if he was brought in I'd like Simpson to stay. Clyne could well perform like Perch when he first arrived, and someone to take the pressure off him, who has already played in big matches for the club would give him time to settle.

Plus considering his service to the club in the past few years, I'd say he deserves a raise. I think at the moment he's on ~£10,000 p/w - the rest of the first team average around £30,000 I think.
Considering Gosling, Marveaux and Santon are all higher paid, I think he deserves parity (which seems to be his issue).

I reckon between £20-25k would be fair.

He deserves a raise. I'd be sorry to see him go.

He's been offered a raise, currently on £10k and been offered £25k. Agree with nts, £25k is more than fair. I'd give him £30k at most.

Top clubs will pay their defenders more than that but are the likes of fulham, Villa etc paying more than 25k?

Villa have Beye and Cuellar on >£30k
Fulham have Kelly on <£15k and Grygera on ~£25k.

I think his issue isn't so much with parity with other league right-backs, but parity with at least younger players who have played less of a role in the squad who are on higher wages.

If I were in his position, I'd be pretty p!ssed to see Gosling earning double what I earn.

Mental, I was going to say a similar thing.

Firstly I like Simpson as a person. He always seems to stop for a bit crack with people when Ive seen him out and about. But if you looked at every team out there, I bet you the fullbacks are the lowest paid. Im not saying its right but its just a fact of life. Strikers get the goals and will more often than not get a higher %.

Saying that, if other people are on more I can understand. I just cant see any other player at the club, like Santon, Raylor or perch, being on over 25k a week. Tiote reportedly signed his new deal for 40k a week. If thats the case then 25k is probably not that far off. Most of the teams out there wont give that much more to him. Villa a reigning it in and already have Hutton at RB. I could see him getting 40-50k from West Ham but if he would rather go there then fair do's.

Reading between the lines, I just think that this is the price the club values him at and thats it. They are not going to make millions on him but feel they can make a decent profit on the 500k outlay. They can improve without compromising the wage structure. He has done canny without being startling. It is a risk, but you dont get far without taking a few.

I have no problem with the lad and if he moves on then good luck to him.

I cant see Gosling having a 50k per week contract!

Simpson is our steady eddie, he does little wrong but apart from a couple of goal line clearances doesn't do anything noticable!

He's been over looked for the England squad and was beaten to the back up squad by Martin Kelly who has only played in the premier league 10 times!

Aston Villa went through a period of signing players on daft wages, i.e Beye and Cuellar but where are they now, Cuellar has been released and Beye will be gone this summer!

Sagna, Boswinga, Johnson and Richards are the only rightbacks i can think of who will be on wages over 25k, Hutton may be close, so he could quite easily become one of the highest paid rb's in the league with what he has been offered!

In all honesty i think Simpson has only become the first team regular he is because we don't have or haven't had another recognised rb, even if he signs a new contract and we sign a lb like they say their going to Santon will be moved over to the right and Simpson will be a squad player on a good contract!

He's obviously been reading the transfer gossip pages too much and seen that Chelsea and Man Utd are after rb's and thought i'll reject the offer it'll get in the press and hopefully a bigger club will be interested, in the meantime i'll come out and blame the club and either a) get a new contract with a bigger pay rise, get a move to a bigger club or C) move to a similar club and get a payrise and either of the last 2 options i can pretend that i was forced out of the club!

I think 25-30k is about fair, and he won't get anymore than that, if he wants it then he will be sold. It is different times now which I agree with. Paying what we can afford rather than paying over the top.

I would like to see him stay, but if goes I won't be gutted.

If Gosling was anywhere near £50k than it wouldn't just be Simpson who'd be peeved!

Simpson was signed as a championship player with very little premier league experience, Gosling was signed as a premier league player with premier league experience!

We've also been trying to give him a better contract for nearly a year now!
