Tim Cahill has said he is "disgusted" at the language used by Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye at the end of the game at Goodison Park on Sunday and that "his words have no place either on or off the football pitch." Cabaye and Everton's Cahill exchanged words which lead to a physical altercation after the final whistle, with Cahill being sent off for grabbing the Frenchman by the throat. Cabaye was also booked.

Cabaye issued an apology on Sunday evening after the game for his part in spat; he said;

"I would like to apologise for the cross words I exchanged with Tim Cahill which resulted in his red card and my booking on the final whistle.

It was unnecessary and, regrettably, the result of frustration and disappointment, all in the heat of the moment.

It is out of character and for that I am sorry."

However, Everton have failed in their bid to appeal the sending off, which means Cahill will miss the first three games of the 2012/13 season.

As a result, Cahill this evening, released the following statement via his Management Company;

"My reaction at the end of the game was out of character but I was disgusted at comments made to me by Cabaye.

I don't wish to elaborate on the exact detail of what was said - but his words have no place either on or off the football pitch.

Cabaye has apologised via his club's website and as far as I am concerned the matter is now closed."

Depends on what was said, but it couldn't have been too bad otherwise the FA would take it up even though he got a card. As far as I am concerned it is done and lets move on
