Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Bolton Wanderers

By Tyne-Talk
April 8 2012

Newcastle United host Bolton Wanderers tomorrow afternoon, in their second of the Easter weekend fixtures. Newcastle go into the game on the back of four consecutive wins, one draw and one defeat from their last six games, whilst Bolton travel on the back of three wins and three defeats from their last six.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has the largest injury list in the Premier League and is without, Steven Taylor (Achilles), Sylvain Marveaux (groin), Peter Lovenkrands (thigh), Gabriel Obertan (foot), Haris Vuckic (knock), Leon Best (knee) and Sammy Ameobi (knee). Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Guthrie remain side-lined with hamstring injuries and could be joined by Cheik Tiote, also suffering with a hamstring injury, who is looking unlikely to feature.

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who also went off with a muscle strain against Swansea, will be assessed nearer kick off.

Owen Coyle will be without Tyrone Mears (knee), Stuart Holden (knee), and Lee Chung-Yong (leg). They will of course be playing in the absence of Fabrice Muamba who continues to recover from a cardiac arrest.

Marcos Alonso (calf) will be assessed before kick-off, whilst Gretar Steinsson (knee) could return to the bench.

Pardew will be keen to keep on the winning run which has seen Newcastle win four games and keep three clean sheets from their last four League fixtures. Owen Coyle will be hoping his side will pick themselves up after a 3-0 defeat against Fulham yesterday as they are dangerously close to the drop zone.

I think that after having an extra days rest and with the way we have been playing, this should be a three pointer!

This game frightens me a little as on form we should win comfortably but it's usually these game that you expect to get a result that tend to slap you in the face
With Bolton playing for their pl lives I'm gonna say a very tight 2-1 to the toon

Cisse to score Newcastle to win 5/4 ha Paddypower are on to me winking smiley

Had a euro on Cisse 2-0 against the Swans was a lovely 50/1 and €4 on Cisse first scorer.

I am hoping we see our true power today show we aren't just countering and parking the bus a Champions League standard performance would be great....but i'll take a scrappy win.

This is what I was referring to earlier when this season have we seen Newcastle control a game start to finish? Need to get in control soon and the chances will follow.

We're on par with Tottenham points-wise, and they've got an FA Cup semi-final to worry about with Chelsea.

Can it actually happen?

Not even gonna speculate on final place, but it truly would be unjust for this squad not to get into Europe.

I hope EFC doesn't take their form from today to the FAC semi.

I want us to finish fifth or higher and see Everton win the cup.

They are my second team if I had to pick one how Moyes has done this every year is beyond me deserves a trophy.

Quality pic that!

Just had to put a comment at how great the last few weeks have been! Well done to the lads and the management for making it 5 wins in 5 with 4 clean sheets. With Liverpool winning and us being 12 points clear of 7th with 5 games to play a top 6 finish and Europe is virtually guaranteed.

The goal by Ben Arfa was magic and I've already watched it so many times this week. After he turns the defender he virtually does the same thing with both feet which is amazing as he ran towards goal.

I'm still buzzing and long may it continue!

It was a quality goal, and it is fantastic that we have got another 3 points. I have started to get a nose bleed being this high up in the league. With the reds getting to the final it has now guaranteed us Europa football, which could be a positive as now the pressure is off and we can now give it a shot to finish as high as we can.

Well done to the Toon
