NUFC Lose 119 Year History for Sports Direct Arena

By Tyne-Talk

Newcastle today lost the historic St James’ Park sign as it was removed and replaced with a Sports Direct Arena monstrosity which looks nowhere near as classy. Fans have displayed that anger at the Stadium’s 119 year history being literally ripped off the wall by staff and despite the official name change in November 2011, broadcasters across the county still refer to the ground by its original name... except the BBC.

The move comes just a month after Newcastle Council appealed to the media to continue referring to the Stadium as St James’ Park, they released a statement saying;

"It requests that the city council write to the media and asks that they continue to use the name of St James' Park in all reporting and refuse to use the name Sports Direct Arena.

We respectfully request that you take this approach."

The BBC declined to follow suit and have referred to the Stadium as The Sports Direct Arena since its formal name change last year.

yes the BBC. apart from the fact that I am a long standing non licence holder, and frankly I am never going to get one, it makes you wonder why a chanel so against adverts are the only one to offer this advert.

As for the name coming down, makes no difference its still st james' park

Ashley does it everytime, stays out of the media, then bought us Cisse then does this to the stadium. I am sure he does it on purpose

I said it when it got announced that the stdium would be changing names, that I don't care as I will always refer to it as SJP
