Player Profile: Papiss Cisse Flies In For NUFC Medical

Newcastle United are on the brink of signing Senegal International Papiss Cisse after the 26 year old flew into London from the African Cup of Nations, for a medical.

The striker, currently playing for SC Freiburg has scored 37 goals in 65 games for the club, with 9 goals from 17 appearances this season. He has shown an interest in the Premier League and this would give him the opportunity to link up with International team-mate Demba Ba at Newcastle.

He was quoted saying;

"I love the Premier League and want to make my name like my mate Demba Ba is doing with Newcastle United at the moment."

The move, if it goes ahead, is said to be costing Newcastle £10million (€12million) and would quash rumours of a return to Tyneside for Andy Carroll.

Cisse is expected to fly back out to is Senegal team-mates after the medical to compete in the Cup.

Very good signing, absolutly chuffed to bits. Our recent great scouting and buying seems to be continueing, now hopefully one more defender and we will be sorted for the season. TBH some of the names of defenders touted about are good ie Cissokho I would like but we have to realistic any defender really even a lower reputation player would do simply as cover for when Taylor returns.

Annie-he's looked good on German pitches too, I assure you.

We still need a top class defender, somebody who can push our starters. I'd call Pieters or Ridgwell, both of whom can play fullback or CB, ideal. Get one of 'em in, put up the "closed for business" sign and call it a good window, Dekka!
