Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote is expecting to leave Tyneside almost ten days earlier than manager Alan Pardew had anticipated. Pardew was hoping that Tiote would stay with the club until the 15th January, but the Ivory Coast training sessions start earlier, with friendlies booked for the 13th and 17th January against Tunisia and Libya, which Tiote expects to be called up for.

Tiote told The Chonicle;

“Maybe after the Man United game, I will go. We have a training camp in Abu Dhabi and I may have to go to that.

It is hard for me I want to play for my country and I want to stay here and play for Newcastle.

I just hope we do well while I am away. We have some tough games and we need to start taking more points.”

Team-mate Demba Ba is also due out for the African Cup of Nations and Pardew will be looking to see how early other Premier League clubs, such as Manchester City allow their players to leave. City have both Yaya and Kolo Toure travelling for the Cup.

Newcastle play Manchester United on Wednesday evening.

On the Liverpool game, Tiote added;

"We are really, really disappointed about what happened at Liverpool.

I really don’t know what to say about it. Maybe it is best to forget about this one because we have a game at home to Manchester United.

All we can do is focus on that. I want to go out on a high."
