Newcastle United travel to the Reebok Stadium on Boxing Day, for the first of their festive fixtures. Newcastle go into the game on the back of a four defeats in their last six games and two draws, whilst Bolton host on the back of a win against Blackburn after five consecutive defeats.

Whilst Alan Pardew will want the Christmas points to help keep an eye on a European place, Owen Coyle will want the points to help him out of the bottom three, but nine defeats from their last ten Premier League games doesn’t help his campaign.

Fans and team-mates alike will welcome the return of Yohan Cabaye to the Newcastle starting eleven after the midfielder served a one match ban for being on the receiving end of five yellow cards this season.

Danny Guthrie (groin) is out through injury, as is Peter Lovenkrands (calf) who will be out for up to three weeks. Steven Taylor (Achilles) and Sylvain Marveaux (groin) are both out, as could be Davide Santon (knee) who will need to pass a late fitness test after being substituted at half time against West Bromwich Albion. Dan Gosling serves the last of a three game ban.

Owen Coyle will be without Marcos Alonso (foot) for six weeks, whilst Stuart Holden (knee), Tyrone Mears (broken leg), Sam Ricketts (calf), Joe Riley (hamstring), Ricardo Gardner (hip/thigh), Sean Davis (knee) and Chung-Yong Lee (broken leg) all remain side-lined.

David Wheater does however return having completed a four game suspension.

Fact: Bolton have kept just 2 clean sheets in their last 23 League games.

Fact: Demba Ba has scored 20 goals in 24 Premier League starts.

Fact: Newcastle United had a player sent off during both Premier League meetings against Bolton last season.
