Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has been named Man of the Match by Tyne-Talk's player rater Wasim4nufc, for his performance against Manchester United this afternoon. Krul had an amazing game, pulling of heart stopping saves throughout the duration of the game. Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson all scored highly with Ryan Taylor not far behind, as they managed to secure a point at Old Trafford. Player Ratings

Tim Krul (9) - A superb display of goalkeeping by our young Dutch international. Made some terrific saves and was worthy of walking away with the man of the match in my opinion. Only made one mistake all game.

Danny Simpson (8.5) – Made that goal saving block on the line at the end and defended with great heart and quality. Although Evra did well going forward I credit Simmo with keeping Ashley Young so quiet and ineffective.

Steven Taylor (8.5) – Was unlucky to be involved in their goal but apart from that he was superb in the air and made one goal saving tackle himself. Another impressive display by a man who cannot be far from the England squad.

Fabricio Coloccini (8.5) – Passed a late fitness test to play in the game and its great that he did for he was a rock at the back. Formed a solid partnership with Taylor throughout despite Hernandez making good runs and led by example.

Ryan Taylor (7.5) – A better performance from the left back. Made some good challenges when needed and deserves a lot of credit especially after his nightmare last week.

Gabriel Obertan (7) – He certainly was very involved in the first half, although his final ball could have been better. For a player who missed the last few games though he did not do too badly.

Yohan Cabaye (7.5) – Put in a good shift and helped us control some good portions of the game. Made some good tackles and showed why the fans have taken to him.

Danny Guthrie (7.5) – Put in a really good shift, considering he hardly trained this week. Broke up a few attacks and looked good in possession. Was unlucky to be taken off as it was purely for fitness reasons and not for the way he played.

Jonas Gutierrez (7) – Worked hard without really getting into many attacking positions. The sending off was possibly more to do with tiredness and not through stupidity.

Hatem Ben Arfa (7) – Kept possession well for us at times when it was needed and of course won us the penalty with a decent run. I’d like him to continue starting as he seems to be getting better with each game.

Demba Ba (7.5) – Had a difficult afternoon playing as the one striker but kept going until the end and took his penalty superbly.

Substitutes

Sammy Ameobi (6) – Was hardly in the game in an attacking sense but tried to help out defensively where he could.

James Perch (6.5) – A small impact by him as he came on for Guthrie and helped us hang on at the end.

Peter Lovenkrands (6) – Do not recall him doing much after coming on towards the end.

I'm not trying to be negative here but I think ratings of 7-9 for everyone in the starting lineup is a bit much for a game we lose without an officiating mistake. Krul merits his, no doubt and Steven Taylor was pretty damn good despite his mistake. But really, even with the penalty if they finished 1 in 5 chances they would have buried us. Jonas, specifically, was disappointing even before his dismissal (and I'm a Jonas fan).

we didn't take our chances and neither did man Utd but we stretched them and stopped a lot of their attacking play the guys deserve credit for that!

I think the back line and Krul, across the board were solid 8+s. In fact, when Crooks finally finished asking his single his post match interview question (likely Monday tea-time) he had Simpson, Colo and Krul in his team of the week. He also was the only pundit to call out Rooney for his dirty swipe at Colo. Ba took a beating from Vidic and didn't get any calls his way, and a cool stroke for the spot kick. Obertan tested Evra far better than anyone I've seen in a while.

The others were 6s for me. Jonas, Ben Arfa, Guthrie and Cabaye didn't control possession and their passing wasn't as fluid as I expect.

I don't disagree with that, waffles. Raylor had an alright game, somewhat indifferent, but the other three defenders were great and deserve 8s. Obertan was brilliant in the first half (missed most all of it) but then disappeared in the second, I can see him being a 7. Ba deserves his rating too, not his fault he didn't see much of the ball, he took the pen well and held the ball well when we needed it.

Jonas-and I'm a fan-was poor, especially with the unnecessary sending off that put us under unneeded pressure. Cabaye looked tired to me, as he has for a few games now. Guthrie was good but not great and HBA is still off the pace.

hopefully when tiote comes back we can start to rest cabaye although it looks like tiote will be back from injury getting to full match fitness and then disappearing off to africa for a few weeks!

Yeah, I'm worried about that scenario too, mental. Ideal for reinjury. Hopefully Ivory Coast goes down quickly but honestly, I can't see that happening. They're probably favorites to win it.
