Newcastle United travel to Loftus Road for tomorrow evening’s 8pm kick off against Queens Park Rangers; since the season started, Newcastle have won three and drawn one in all competitions, whilst QPR have won one and lost three of their games across all competitions. 4 points separate the two sides.
Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock will hand midfielder Joey Barton his debut for the club at Loftus Road in the first Premier League game for both sides since the transfer window closed. Shaun Wright-Phillips and Luke Young could also feature for their new club.
Defender Clint Hill returns having completed a 3 match ban and DJ Campbell returns having recovered from a virus.
Defender Bradley Orr (groin) and strikers Jaime Mackie (broken leg) and Rob Hulse (knee), remain long term injury concerns for QPR, whilst Kieron Dyer (foot) was given the 12th Sept as a comeback date.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is set to hand Italian signing Davide Santon his debut from the bench rather than the starting eleven, whilst Haris Vuckic (wrist), Mike Williamson (ankle) are unlikely to be available due to injury.
Steve Harper (knee) has returned to training and Sammy Ameobi (thigh) is expected back, though he may not be named in tomorrow’s team-sheet.
Hatem Ben Arfa (ankle/foot) remains the clubs only long-term injury and is not expected to return until the end of October.
Fact: Newcastle last won away at QPR in the 1995/96 season. Newcastle have made their best start to a Premier League campaign this season since that 1995/96 campaign, when they finished 2nd.
Fact: Newcastle have won 3 of the last 4 meetings with QPR and drawn the 4th.
Fact: QPR’s Adel Taarabt has had 14 attempts at goal without scoring so far this season.

A scoreless draw will see us even with Stoke on all accounts, a scoring draw or win will move us 4th.
I will be there tomorrow. Should anyone fancy a pint let me know before I leave
as will be explined in the next few articles, I will be going to all games for the next few months.

So annoyed. Thought the match would be on tv here as three separate stations have Premier rights, instead Australia V. Italy Rugby repeat, US Open final and an MLS repeat! MLS? Over a LIVE Premier League match, really?

I don't think it would of mattered if we did sign a star striker with the service, or lack of, that our forwards are getting from the midfield today!
Commentary/analysis has us generally getting mauled and specifically having no answer for SWP & Taraabt. Is it that bad?

Yep its that bad, little to no imagination from our side, plenty of pace but no finish, thankfully, for them.
It hasn't been pretty, they have moved SWP to the left so while he has still been dangerous it hasn't been as often. Taraabat has quieted as well.

Sounds like a point we got despite our performance rather than because of it. I never turned down any point on offer, though, so it'll do.

We were definitely not at our best tonight but they were always going to be bang up for it. With Barton and the rest of the lads making their debut they would have that extra something. He may score but do people think SWP will play as well as that again this season. Plus he wasnt up against a LB.
Another clean sheet and up to fourth which you cant knock.
Thought Colo and Simpson did very well. Best had a canny first half. We looked better at the end when we had five across the middle.
End of the day Im over the moon with the point and its another game for the new lads to bed in together. Villa away next so hopefully we can grab another point.

We're 4th place and still undefeated, nothing to complain about. Last season we lost 2-0 to Blackpool at home in the 4th game of the season; I'll take 0-0 in London to QPR. It was a poor performance, but we still have 8 points in 4 matches, which puts us 15% of the way to 8th place with only 10% of the season played.
Tiote has always had a problem getting caught in possession. Opponents will not have missed this and will look to exploit it (also: Raylor at LB like SWP did). If Gosling's fit, I'd drop Cheick for Villa. He can't start feeling like he's got a spot regardless of how he plays.
Our position means nothing. I understand your point, Carys-go ahead rub it in! But this is being cited as a reason not to be critical of the squad, and it's laughable as such.

Minuses: lack of goals from open play, ineffective passing of the ball: we completed 68.2% of passes according to the guardian's chalkboards, whereas QPR completed 74.8 while attempting 120 more. Bryan Robson made an argument on ESPN that that's what AP has always preferred and that Shola is selected because he's filling the role Harewood did at WHU. AP seems to be the only one following the Toon who thinks 4-4-2 is right for this squad.

it was a bad time to play QPR, they had the buzz of the new owner new players and the whole hype around Barton!
Saying that it doesn't excuse how bad we actually played!
Its good to see Pardew has admitted that he got the tactics wrong and should of matched them in midfield instead of playing with as much width on such a tight pitch!
I was also disappointed at how poorly we were playing and he left the substitutions so late, Jonas was obviously hurt, best wasn't the same after he hurt his knee so why keep them on the pitch!
Also our main problem when attacking is we are starting too deep,Best should be playing on the shoulder of the CB waiting for the balls over the top or balls for him to bring down as it is they are playing right in front of the CB and having to try and get past them or shoot from distance! The 2 wingers were also starting deep which enabled QPr to get players across to disposses them and the few decent runs they managed to make they ended up with no support because the strikers hadn't caught up yet!

I think the wingers were always going to end up deep in a 4v5 midfield battle with both Cabaye and Tiote off the pace. As for the forwards, mental-it's bizarre to me that the manager doesn't realize this and at least try to solve it with a 5th midfielder. It's down to AP to fix these things-with substitutions on the night and with tactical changes during the week. Show us what you got, Alan!

Uh, yeah-I guess. I'd rather he fixed it as soon as he noticed...or not gone with those tactics at all which everyone but him seems to realize do not suit this squad.
