Newcastle United travel to Glanford Park tomorrow evening in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup. Sky Sports have picked up the rights to cover the game and Kick Off is at 7.45pm. Alan Pardew had already ruled Joey Barton out of the game with a minor foot injury, but the midfielder has since been given permission to talk to Queens Park Rangers.
Hatem Ben Arfa remains the only other player absent through injury for Newcastle, whilst Sylvain Marveaux, Haris Vuckic and Sammy Ameobi could all participate with Marveaux making his competitive debut for the club.
Scunthorpe are without Paul Reid (groin), Jordan Robertson (broken ankle) and Cliff Byrne (back), whilst Niall Canavan could start, as could Oliver Norwood who will make his debut on his loan deal from Manchester United.
Scunthorpe have made a disappointing start to the season, whilst Newcastle have taken 4 points form two big games, including a win against Sunderland last weekend in the derby game.
Fact: Scunthorpe Utd have never knocked out a top flight team in the League Cup.
Fact: Newcastle won their last 2 away games in the League Cup scoring 7 goals in total, 4 of which were against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Completely disagree senyab for a player who has been out as long as he has marveaux did very well he was the only one playing football the first half.
The 3 subs made the difference Saylor was his usual aggresive self getting the players around him going.
Vuckic just looks a classy player definitely should be getting some time against fulham.
Sameobi was perfectly described as a wanchope style player almost carrollesque be interesting to see how he does.
