Pre-season: Match Preview/Stats/Thread: NUFC v Fiorentina

Alan Pardew has named Tim Krul in goal for this afternoon’s game against Italian side Fiorentina at St James’ Park, and Fraser Forster on the bench as Steve Harper recovers from a knee injury, whilst Haris Vuckic is given a starting place after performing well during previous pre-season games.

Cheik Tiote remains in Ghana dealing with his visa “issues”, whilst Joey Barton who was transfer listed last week fails to be named but will be at the game watching from the sidelines.

Hatem Ben Arfa (ankle), Danny Guthrie (groin), and Shane Ferguson (ankle), are all out through injuries picked up in pre-season.

A shame to have the game abandoned, as it seemed a lively affair, but it also protects both sides from injuries, which is a good thing.

Least they got 60 mins run out. It hasnt rained like that over here for a good while.

Sure Jose will get stuck in especially whilst the transfer window is open. Sure it wont happen but the more I think about it I hope he either goes in January or on a free next summer. The chance of us getting someone in with quality before the season starts is doubtful and this is a massive season for us transitionally.

I agree, Biffins. Also, it seems like the fee we're getting for him may be as low as 5M.

Too bad about the game. What a preseason, eh boys?
