Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton has refuted claims that he has a side of dirty players, despite having had four players suspended in the last few weeks. Joey Barton was given a 3 match ban for lashing out during the Blackburn game, Cheik Tiote missed the last game, Fabricio Coloccini received a red card at the weekend and will miss 3 games whilst Williamson has now added to the problem by picking up a 3 game ban himself.

Hughton said;

"I don't think that anyone who has seen us play would call us a dirty team.

It's not a concern that we'll pick up a reputation at all, because we're not that kind of side.

Of course the players need to be aware of their actions, and what it might mean, but what we have had really is a freak fortnight.

To have one ban like this is quite unusual, but to have three in two weeks is really quite rare. We have to accept it and get on with it.

It's something that we'll remind the players about – we remind them about it all the time – but neither of those players have a bad disciplinary record on the whole.

Mike was on two bookings for the whole season before the ban. Colo was on three bookings before he got sent off. Those are not bad disciplinary records or something to be concerned about."

Hughton has admitted he is disappointed by the decision of the FA to punish Mike Williamson after their appeal failed, Hughton said;

"We're very disappointed with the decision. The fact that there was no additional ban for Mike shows that we were justified in contesting the charge, but now the verdict has been delivered, we have to go with that.

To lose two centre-halves for three games is a big, big blow, but we just have to get on with it."
