Hopefully Roberts has a bad game, he always seems to score against us.

I'll say 1-1 because I'd like to be suprised by a victory rather than expect one, which never goes well as a Newcastle supporter.

Carys, I have a similar feeling to you, in that I am also not confident about tonight. I don't know why I'm feeling like that despite us winning three big games on the trot. Whether it's complacency or our poor record or an old manager coming to haunt us I just don't have a good feeling about tonight's game.

As Carys says, I'd love to be proved wrong.

Terrible from Cheik Tiote in the Newcastle area, the midfielder getting caught unnecessarily on the ball allowing Morten Gamst Pedersen to take a touch and slam low into the far corner.



It was only a matter of time before Tiote got caught out. He was lucky to get away with taking too many touches against Sunderland and Arsenal at times without getting punished. That's the one weakness of his game thus far.

I feel your pain cappen- it's not like football coverage is overwhelming here in Ontario

hard work after going behind so early.

blackburn are sitting very deep to protect the lead, which we all know causes this newcastle side problems. we dont have the right player to open up a defence like this, as has been shown against stoke and blackpool, as well as lots of games last season. the problem tonight is that blackburn are playing with two fast wide players who arent dropping as deep as the seven man defence, which is having the effect of occupying enrique and simpson, who would usually be bringing the ball forward when we attack.
the result of this, so far, is that we look like we're going to struggle to make a clear cut chance. so far we've managed a few wild thrashes from outside the box, nothing to worry robinson in goal.
the good news is that we wont need to make many chances, as we have a few hot players in front of goal, so we could get back in this. if we do so early second half, we could go on to win. if not, of course, we've all seen the nerves and the desperation as we begin to look less and less likely.
there have been a few cards already, so a red card could affect the game, but as tiote already has a yellow he will miss the fulham game with a ban.

all is not lost, but we need to start quickly and maybe even consider routledge or ranger by 60 min if we arent level by then...

We shouldn't have trouble against physical sides-we physically dominated Arsenal and should be able to hang. Carroll, Nolan, Barton, Tiote, Coloccini, Williamson and Enrique are all big enough and shouldn't shy away from contact.

I think if we're sluggish it may be more down to emotional letdown after a couple huge results and maybe fatigue since CH kept the same squad and isn't using his subs liberally.

As for Ranger vs. Loven-good question, but it must come down to what CH sees in training.

another poor goal to concede. weak header under pressure form williamson, who has been decent tonight. gave his keeper little chance.

Not dead yet!

CH has to learn how to use the bench to win/draw games from behind.

First non-injury sub in a home match we were never winning in the 88th minute? Disappointing.

Our home form is absolutely awful.

What the atmosphere like?

F00king awful. Once again, the good feeling from a big result is gone.

I was following the game a bit on the stream, but from what I heard the atmosphere was quite flat and until we scored, the home support was very quiet. We've got to improve our home form, because if we don't, we going to put a lot of pressure on ourselves. We do have Fulham next, who are not the best of travelers, so at least we have an immediate chance to get back on track.

we still need that plan b, for days like this.

the last three results have given us something to fall back on when it doesnt go our way, such as tonight.

a few of them looked a bit tired, still full of effort but less effective. tiote misses saturday, maybe guthrie will bring the energy and either ranger or routledge (loven hasnt been near the pitch this season, shame, but he wont get in from the start from where he is now) will get a start too in a refreshed line up.

worst thing? we all knew this result was kinda likely, didnt we?

The result was kind of due, so we've just got to work towards learning from our mistakes, on Saturday. I'd like to see Routledge start again, as pace is the one other thing we can use when things aren't quite working out.

I'm also off and unfortunately, due to the game not being on the tele here, I won't have my player ratings for this match.

The good news is we'll remain 5th. The bad news is we have to figure out how to beat the physical teams. We've played well against teams that want to play football (except Blackpool). But for a team filled with tall, strong, physical players we're getting pushed around too often.

Routledge should have come on sooner, lmk. Loven finished on the bench. And I hope we finished in 4-3-3. At the very least, this is why I find CH's statement that he's happy with the squad and will add nothing to it a bit surprising. We have nothing on the bench that will help us come back in a game like this and he's satisfied with the squad? Something doesn't add up.

No, I didn't think this was likely. Hard to believe we can beat Arsenal and lose to these hacks in a 4-day period.

As far as physical teams-our lineup is as big and physical as any in the league. That shouldn't be a problem. Gotta get it right on the training ground.

It was a nice goal for Andy, and a nice punch in the gut by Joey, but we've got to remember that we don't get any more points beating Arsenal or winning 5-1 than beating Blackburn, Wigan, Blackpool etc.

The two goals kreally annoyed me. Tiote has been great since he came in, but I just knew that eventually he would get caught holding on to the ball in the box. The second goal was insane, once again we showed no pyshical strength at the back and give up a long ball goal. Those really hurt.

Like some hav pointed out - I just didn't see us winning this game. When we equalized I was happy to take a point. I hate when we play against Allardyce teams.

Gotta get up off the mat and be ready for Fulham.

For me sloppy school boy errors cost us! Both goals were gifts, Tiote... You dont start trying to take players on in your own penalty area, simply pass it wide if available or hoof it anywhere...

Williamson... was simply not strong enough against Roberts, then decided to play for the foul, thinking if he went down in a heap the whistle might blow, or linesman flags? Foolish,

Learn from stupid errors fast

We lost because of 2 mistakes, plain and simple!

Tiote has been our best player this season, but has learned a harsh lesson about the EPL tonight. He won't try walking the ball out the 18 yd box again any time soon I'm sure.

Mike Williamson could have done SO MUCH BETTER! Perhaps he got a wack in the face from Roberts not sure. But he should have done better for the goal.

I also feel Krul should have done better for their 2nd also.

I'm not too disappointed. We out totally outpassed them and were looking like we were going to go on and win it at 1-1.

We'll beat Fulham, I'm sure.

My only Criticism of Hughton is that he takes too long to make his substitutions. And Perhaps he could have rested 1 or 2. 2 games in 4 days definitely showed on some of the players, with them looking a bit tired.

In from the match and just watched the highlights.

We knew how SA would come and play here with their anti football and fair do's. Not making any excuses for us as we again had a bit of an off day but Blackburn are just horrible. Diving, kicking the balls away from us when its a corner/throw in/free kick.

They seemed to have two chances and scored from both. Bad mistake for the first one and a bit week from Williamson even though it looked like Roberts might have stuck his elbow into his chest.

Will do some quick scores since Wasim didnt get to see the match.

Krul-7 Didnt have much to do apart from pick the ball out of his net but he commanded his box well against a big team and his kicking is good.

Simpson- 6.5 Decent game but was left on his own for large parts of the game (espec 2nd half) when Barton was tucking in.

Williamson-6 He gets this score as I thought he might have been a little weak in the jump against Roberts for the second goal. Thought he would have done better with a little run up if he could have. If Roberts did foul him then you can make it a 6.5.

Colo-7 Again very good on the ball and is playing with a lot of confidence. Would have to see it again but maybe he could have done a little better for their second.

Jose-6 He is getting less than Simpson even though he got forward a lot more than him as he had Jonas to back him up. He did get a couple of balls into their box though.

Barton-7 It would have been an 8 after he again ran the show and another great ball for the goal. he gets marked down a point for the stupid punch into Pedersen's chest which will no doubt and rightly so bring a suspension. He spent a lot of the second half in the centre but sure that would have been due to Blackburn packing the middle.

Tiote- 5.5 His worst game so far and not just because he gave away the early first goal. Suppose its because he has set such high standards but hopefully he will learn from his mistake. He got booked so think he will miss the Fulham game. One thing I noticed though is that he is a great outlet for the either set of FB/Wingers. He was always there to make up the three man triangle and got Jose/Jonas out of trouble a few times.

Nolan-5.5 Didnt really get into the game and against a team like this, who pack the midfield, he was rarely able to get into the box.

Jonas-6 Frustrating as ever. Plenty of running but against a team who give you such little space he really does struggle. Cant help but think if Arfa was around he would be the one to make way.

Shola-5.5 A quiet game but possibly carrying a knock and went off at half time.

Carroll-7.5 Scored another great header (copy of the Arsenal goal) and put himself about as always.

Ranger came on for Shola and apart from putting himself about a bit did little. Rout came on with only a few minutes to go so didnt have enough time to shine.

I know we were chasing the game but I would have taken off Nolan instead of Tiote who can still push us on. Routledge on earlier to get at Chimbonda who was on a yellow.

At least we have a game at the weekend to make up for this dire performance. I think the lads will come back.

Why do we seem to need a wake up call every 3 weeks?

It's so frustrating that we lose to Blackpool, Stoke and Blackburn who all play terrible football. Stoke and Blackburn boring long ball@#$%&and Blackpool are just not good enough for this league yet we lose.

Why are none of us actually surprised by this result?
We are a top half team for this league when we play well and that was a relegation candidate performance that we produce once a month. It's so frustrating that we can almost predict the timing of these performances the way one would predict the possibility of the sun coming up in the morning.

I had a terrible feeling when Roberts came on. Williamson really struggles with long balls into the box. He's not strong enough to deal with some of the bigger forwards in this league.

Congrats to Carroll on the goal that must certaintly earn him an England call up.

oh, just read that it wasnt tiote's 5th booking after all, so he isnt banned just yet. barton has been charged though, after the ref looked at a replay. not sure if he'll be processed in time to be banned on saturday though

Well I hope we don't see that from Tiote anymore, but I'm worried we will because as I pointed out he's done that since his first game here. Maybe he needs to be sat on the bench for a game to get the point.

And I absolutely do mean it, lmk. It's not like we rode roughshod over Arsenal. The boys just buckled down, worked hard and did what was necessary to win. Exactly what was needed last night and we didn't get it-rather Barton being a ponce, Williamson playing for a foul, Gutierrez running around like a chicken with his head cut off and CH waiting until the 88th minute to make a positive change in a game we never controlled. Seems to me we had an emotional letdown after a couple big results and focus went right out the window.

But yeah, it's all part of the fun. Arsenal fans must have found the Invincibles hopelessly dull...
