Manager Chris Hughton has told The Chronicle, that he has no intention of rushing back 20 year old Dan Gosling, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament problem. Gosling, who is likely to return to light training over the next few weeks, has been ruled out until at least the New Year.
Hughton said;
"Dan's rehab has been going very, very well. I have been delighted with him from that perspective.
There have been no setbacks, which you sometimes have with this type of injury, and he is very much on course to be back when we originally thought he would be. It is a long injury and he will be delighted.
There is not really a chance of him coming back before the end of the year - not that I am aware of at the moment."
He added;
"It has been very frustrating for him.
He is only a young lad and it has been a long, long time out for him. Plus, he is at a new club and he probably wants to go out there and prove what he can do.
You cannot do that if you are injured like he is, and that is annoying. There is no rush for Dan to come back. We will make sure he is absolutely ready before we risk him."
luckily he plays mainly in CM and we are flush in that position for once. If he was a striker or right back then perhaps we would be more worried. Hopefully he can take this time to get his body right - often when coming back from a major injury something else will get strained or pulled like a hamstring or groin. If he takes time to stronger across his whole body and things go smoothly then we could have a real player on our hands come 2011.
Something tells me either he, Barton or Guthrie will be pushed out wide. Don't let the depth at CM fool you-somebody has to play on the wings. Jonas and Rout can't do it all game, every week.
ranger has been used wide right...
i'd play him there ahead of barton or guthrie if all were fit, just to see how he'd do. is faster than either (lots) and neither of them has shown any great promise out of their natural positions
i know too little of gosling, other than to realise he is no ben arfa, and i'm determined to forget about him until he's playing reserve football at least.
Good shout about Ranger. I have to imagine CH shares my worries that he may not be good/consistent enough there to be our primary cover. But it is just cover.
As for Gosling-I remember that his falling out with Moyes involved the latter trying to make him a wide midfielder. They have a decent scouting setup at EFC and if they think he has the skill set to play out wide I'd give that some consideration. True, he's not Ben Arfa-but he did come up with a good bit of hype and he's had some trouble realizing it but is still young. So he's not completely dissimilar, either.
