South Africa 179/6

So South Africa have posted a very good score of 179/6 from their 20 overs.

England however will fancy their chances of chasing such a score with the batting line-up that they possess.

Du Plessis top scored for South Africa with 58 from 40 balls. He was ably assisted by Van Der Dussen 37 from 28, De Kock 30 from 23 and Klaasen 20 from 12.

Of the England bowlers Sam Curran was the pick with 3 wickets for 28 runs from his 4 overs. Archer also went for 28 but could only pick up the 1 wicket.

Rashid went wicket less but was the most economical of the England bowlers going for just 27 from his 4 overs.

England may rue the decision to go with Tom Curran ahead of Wood and Moeen Ali as he was smashed for 55 from his 4 overs.

It was a surprise that Ben Stokes didn’t bowl at all especially given the hammer Tom Curran received.

I would expect Stokes to bowl a few overs in this team in those circumstances but it seems he is only going to bowl when absolutely necessary and he is picked primarily as a batsman in this format of the game for the time being.

England do however know what Stokes can do and his workload in all formats may have been the thinking behind the decision along with giving the other bowlers the overs they need in preparation for the world cup next year.
