England's premier spinner, of which much hope for Ashes glory pins on, was invlovled in a major injury scare in England's warm up game with Essex, when he was hit on the right arm from a bouncer and ended up having an X-ray to determine any damage....

A lifting delivery from left armer Tymal Mills did the damage, and although Swann was able to bat on for 50 more minutes after the incident, he looked in pain for most of his remaining runs as he made an excellent 94.

It was later revealed that he was sent to hospital for X-ray that eventually showed up no broken bones, and he should return to the field in the later stages of the warm up game, which England relying on the part time spin of Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen to fill the void.

Earlier Tim Bresnan hit an unbeaten century as England declared on 413-9 against the second division county side, with Mills in particular looking impressive as he roughed up both Swann and Bresnan in the morning session.

Essex had slumped to 231-9 in reply with Root taking four of the wickets to fall.
