England have omitted Kevin Pietersen from their provisional Twenty20 squad for the World Cup in Sri Lanka, which takes place in September later this year. It seems that despite last ditch talks to get back into the one day picture, Pietersen is now looking at a prolonged absence from the shorter forms of the game....

Of course, had he not 'retired' from the one scene a few weeks ago, ahead of the 5 match Australia series, then 'KP' would have made this squad, however talks to 'un-retire' have failed to reach a solution, so the squad sees Pietersen omitted.

it is a blow for Pietersen, given he was man of the tournament when England lifted the trophy in 2010.

One day skipper Alastair Cook has been included in the line up, although he is yet to play in the shortest form for England since November 2009.
