Well slump to late goal defeat at home again.

Gunning v McGowan

A late goal from Saints sub Michael Higdon consigned Motherwell to a defeat which stopped them making fourth in the table.

The first half was a poor affair but it was probably Saints who made the best chances with the best falling to Craig Dargo but his close range header was well save by Randolph who was in good position.

There were also two penalty shouts ignored by Steve Conroy, one at both ends with Dargo tumbling for Saints and Lasley going down for Well.

The second half started with Dargo having a couple of half chances, first heading at Randolph and then shooting into the side netting.

We did manage to respond with a couple of decent efforts from Tom Hateley, his viscous free kick was well saved by Gallagher at the front post and then he hit a sweet shot that was blocked by team mate Gavin Gunning.

There was another penalty shout from the home fans when Jeffers looked to be fouled in the act of shooting but once again the claims were waved away.

Then with only 8 minutes left the Saints scored the goal they probably just about deserved. Higdon found space between the right back and centre back and fired a shot across Randlph, it looked safe enough until it hit something and bounced away over his hand!

It was too late for a disappointing Well side to come back and take anything from the game, leaving the manager frustrated knowing his side had thrown away a chance of making it into fourth, and a visit from Celtic on Sunday.
