With three players out of contract in January Well boss Craig Brown wants talks with Chairman John Boyle to sort things out.

Alan Gow and Marc Fitzpatrick see their contracts run out in January and would be free to move elsewhere, while Nick Blackman’s loan ends in mid month and he could be recalled to Blackburn Rovers.

Gow and Blackman have been regulars in the first team in recent weeks, with Blackman currently the clubs top scorer with ten league goals to date. Fitzpatrick has been used sparingly this season mainly due to injury but there is no doubt he is a solid squad player.

The manager has said, “There is still a bit of time before January but I will need to sit down and have a chat with the chairman shortly. I haven’t been speaking to him yet.

“Hopefully in the next week or so we will have a clearer picture.

“But I’m pretty sure we won’t be able to bring anyone in unless we sell somebody. Blackman is contracted to the middle of January so there is no panic.

“We hope to keep him but if that’s not possible we have alternatives in mind. We also have plenty on our own staff.”

He has mentioned John Sutton and Esteban Casagolda as the people on the staff who could step in. Sutton will not score ten in half a season, that is the expectation for a full season for the Englishman. On the other hand Casagolda is still an unknown quantity.

Let’s hope Mr Boyle speculates a little to accumulate a decent Scottish Cup run and give us a chance against Rangers in the League Cup semi while pushing for another run at a European place.

It would seem a shame not to do this with such an excellent coaching team in place and therefore miss an great opportunity to give us all a season to remember, particularly as we head to the 20th anniversary of our last Cup win in 1991.
