  Barnsley have signed defender Marc Roberts on a three year contract from Conference side Halifax Town.  

The reds have certainly wasted no time in getting down to business which is encouraging to see. However, signing a 24 year old from a conference team will be somewhat underwhelming for most fans. Hopefully he will prove to be a good signing.

Championship clubs were said to be ready to pounce so maybe Lee Johnson has made a real coup with this signing.

Speaking to the official website Roberts said ‘I’m happy to get it sorted and can’t wait to get going.

‘I’ve always wanted to sign for my hometown club, and now it’s finally here – I can’t wait.

‘I’ve got lots of friends who are Barnsley fans so I’ve always looked out for their results.

‘The gaffer here is great and I’m looking forward to working with him. I had a conversation with him and it tipped it in Barnsley’s favour.

‘I’m an old-fashioned defender. I’m strong in the air and won’t lose many headers. I’m not bad on the floor but I’m looking to improve.’
