The notepads, dictaphones, microphones, cameras, televsion cameras and laptops were all out after Tuesdays game-Against West Bromwich Albion. As the local and asociated press gathered to speak to Simon Grayson, Ben Burgess and West Brom boss Tony Mowbray.

We will start with Simon Grayson, who overall is happy with the Seasiders league postion but remains dissaponied after a "strange" game on Tuesday. The manager told the Blackpool Gazette "We're still in a good position in the league - I'm sure one or two of the teams below us would like to swap with us.

"I think the players have shown the spirit and the character and desire to prove people wrong all season and that started in the first game of the season at Leicester."

He is also quoted in the paper as saying "I feel somewhat devastated. We played really well against a side which has been put together in a much more expensive manner than ours."

Ben Burgess put the Seasiders ahead with a first half goal but Grayson felt another was needed to ensure the win. Although it never came in the end. He told the paper "In the first half, we had the chances but needed to take more than one of them to be really safe."

Speaking about West Brom's ability and tactics he said "You always felt with West Brom's ability to rotate five different strikers in the game that they were never going to be put off by a one-goal margin. Having Kevin Phillips up your sleeve is the sort of bonus any manager wants.

Grayson wrapped up by saying "It is my job to try and lift my team before our next match. I don't believe the players are down but just a bit confused about a strange end to a strange game."

Hopefully three points against Cardiff will see us rise to a safer position in the league. Blackpool currently have 50 points;two points of relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday and if things carry on how they are it could go to the last game. Something nobody wants.

Ben Burgess told the Blackpool Gazette "We don't want it to go down to the last few weeks but if it does, it does."

Burgess wants to secure saftey soon, a win against Cardiff would help but he realises that they're good team but will still have an FA Cup hangover. He said"Obviously we want to do it against Cardiff. Hopefully they'll be still drunk from getting to the FA Cup final."

Meanwhile Tony Mowbray has suggested his side should have won by more. He told the press following the match "We were playing against a side who played very well and are well structured defensively. Once they got their noses in front from a set play there were a lot of bodies there for us to have to play through and around and over."

He added "I felt in the last 15 minutes we could almost score at will against them. I am pleased because Blackpool away was a real potential banana skin for us."

Apart from the score it was a cracking match. Both set of fans created a great atmosphere and yes Mr Oyston another full house. The game hinged on two decisions. First when the Baggies brought on Kevin Phillips and second that diabolical penalty decision. That gave them the incentive to go for a winner. Unfortunately after giving the Baggies the run around for 80 minutes we ran out of steam. Even now it's hard to believe we actually lost.

It also helped having a 16 goal striker who has the ability to move the wing and cause a full back who was lacking in confidence after the penalty hell.

Trouble was the ref seemed in awe of the Baggies, in particular Phillips. You could tell he would give them a penalty at some time and sure enough he did. His assistant never gave it and he was nearer. The ref was a disgrace.

To the referee's credit, he gave it as he saw it. He gave it straight away, and didn't think about it for too long, which would have made it worse.

I never said he got it right, i'm saying he gave it straight away, and didn't think about it. He had a good game apart from that, and that was one of very few bad decisions. We need to move on, stop saying we were hard done by, and concentrate on Sheffield this weekend.

What? He had a good game but also made several bad decisions.

And you also credited the referee for giving a penalty when even you admitted it wasnt.

He blew the whistle before he hit the ground and ingols right about him being in awe of them.

The title of this article is Pool v WBA reaction and that's what we're discussing not the forthcoming Sheff Wed game. The point that's being made is up until the penalty decision the Baggies looked out of ideas and we looked in control. That decision HAD a major impact on both sides, the referee got it totally wrong and whether you thought he had a good game is immaterial to that decision. Now as far as the Sheff Wed game is concerned it goes without saying that we will be behind the lads as we will with two remaining games after that. (Sm127)
