Well what to say about Reet? He has made himself a real fans favourite since joining us in January 2006 for a small fee of £25,000. Probably the same amount of haircuts he has been through since he joined the Stags.
Danny joined Sheffield Wednesday as a youngster in 2005 but made no immediate impact there and was loaned out towards the end of that year to league two side Bury. He played six games for the club and scored 4 goals for them, incidentally half of those goals came at Field Mill as he scored two goals and was on the winning end of a 3-0 scoreline. This was probably the point which rose Peter Shirtliff's attention.
Three weeks after he returned from Bury back to Wednesday he was out the door once again, this time permanantly and towards our way to Field Mill. He made an immediate impact as he scored 2 goals in his first 4 games for the Stags, forming a great partnership up front with striker Richie Barker.
Fond memories will be held of Danny from the season after this as he put in two memorable performances amongst many other decent ones. The Stags were drew against Pompey in the Carling Cup. Reet scored in the 81st minute and gave a fantastic performance against then top of the premiership opposition. He also had a cracking game against local rivals Notts County at Field Mill, he dominated the magpies from start to finish scoring two goals in a 2-2 draw. Dermot Gallagher the referee admitted to Reet at half time that he had made a mistake dissallowing his third goal which would've surely put Notts to bed.
Stags fans have always liked Reet but Dearden clearly doesn't share the same enthusiasm for the player. Weight has been a big issue with Reet and Billy clearly doesn't think he has put enough effort into losing this weight, showing this by sending him on loan to Rochdale late in the 06/07 season and Alfreton towards the beggining of the 07/08 until the end of the season.
