One month in and further down the road than usual. 3 CC1 games behind us and on to our second one day match. We need BIG things in Lancashire this week and it starts for Marcus in the mayday one day match this afternoon. A squad of 15 travel covering every possible option for the boss...but there's only one real question; Who's going to bowl Mr T?

A big squad travels up for the week in Manchester that can have a significant influence on Somerset's main season. In reality however, the only changes to the team taking the pitch will occur after the number 7 position.
Trescothick, Suppiah, Compton, Hildreth, de Bruyn, Trego, Buttler..
Will play if all other things are equal. The early batting jitters of those behind their skipper seem to have been calmed by a couple of fair scores from numbers 2 to 4, Zander and Peter will be back up bowlers for whatever selection occurs at the tail and Jos has the gloves.
But what about the other 4? Alfonso Thomas surely will take part because of his performances with both bat and ball, making runs with the first and giving away almost none with the second. Charl? Well there have been comments about his ability to produce those tight spells he is well known for in the West but I doubt it will be an issue in the Championship match and will be very surprised if he does not start the Mayday 40 over clash. The third established pace place will go to Wright one would imagine with Phillips either being preferred over the younger players or losing out to a decision for out and out pace or the need to include a second slow bowler.
It is therefore simply down to slow v fast. Max and Michael versus Mark and David for the last palce. Will Mr Munday play any part in a very important one day clash? I personally doubt it. It is more likely to be Max over a tight 8 overs. Will they both play? Unlikely I think given the weather here and what that possibly means about rain and overcast conditions in the North.
So....Stiff or Turner? Both unlikely to be the most frugal of our bowling resources but capable of unpredictable pace that a batsmen may be surprised by. Stiff is probably the least predictable but also has the more effective arsenal of good stuff while Turner may bowl less wayward deliveries but is less penetrative with the 'on the wicket' deliveries.
I'd expect Waller or Turner to get a run out. Especially after Mark's performance here last year when he became the supporter's favourites for a while and suggested what could be. It hasn't happened yet but this may be the place to start it.
Six players fighting for 2 positions is good. I'm not sure any of them have a solid hold on the post or the faith of the selectors so it could be any combination. Should Charl have a poor game like he did in Cardiff even he may not be a certainty in future games. It will be interesting to see who takes the field at 1:45.
No Wright. We go with Phillips and Waller to fill the last couple of places. Lancashire win the toss and put us in.

Wouldn't know it from the official site, as they seem to only be interested in what they are billing as Craig vs Pollard.
I'm very pleased that we get to play this one, as it will give the batsmen the chance to get the pace of the trampoline before the all important game on Tuesday.
Lancs have, apparently, lost only six games in the CC since the start of the 2006 season so I think that shows that it will be a very tough game and one that we absolutely must get our team selection right for that one. It would be wonderful to get a first win before Kartik arrives.
Lancs are due to play Glamorgan there today.
I wonder will it be the same against us tomorrow?

Well, SCCC has lost only six CC matches since the start of 2007 and I regard the results of 2006 as completely irrelevant now.

As per the met office forecast they are now promising rain today and every day this wk apart from Friday. Grrrr.
It is probably sensible of Lancashire to bowl first, given their highly successful run chase yesterday and the possibility of a D/L finish today, enabling them them to pace their reply to ensure they stay ahead of the rate.
