Gloucester beat the wind  and the rain and a late rally by Falcons to win 18-14 at Kingston Park to go top of the league ... admittedly before the other weekend games .

In the first two games so far the Cherry and Whites have left supporters nervously watching the clock run down.

This time it was because they had eased their way to an 18-0 lead before the home side came back with two late scores of their own,  and fancied a third as 80 minutes approached. Fortunately, George Skivington's boys held out.

Geiorge McGuigan got the first try on his return to the North East. George Bartron had already slotted a penalty and when another was kicked to the corner McGuigan was the man to pounce from the maul.

The gale then helped Gloucs to their second. A Stephen Varney kick caught in the wind enabling Morris to gratefully take the ball and score.

The second half was tighter with Barton taking the lead to 18-0 as Falcons came back. Pressure led to McGuigan conceding a penalty try and then speedy winger Adam Rdwan score a great solo effort to set up those nailbiting last few minutes.

Home  to Sarries next Friday - might be another thriller.
