The Anglo Welsh competition continues to be a bit of an oddity which struggles to make a lasting impression. Last Friday we earned a creditable, if slightly dour, draw at a distinctly damp Bath ...
At least the game (17-17) had the benefit of being live on TV and on a Friday night under lights so there was a reasonable atmosphere. There were more than 12,000 present to watch Tom Vellacott annoy the locals with a late try with Hook's con briging the scores level to keep out interest going.
This Saturday may be a touch different. We host Newport Gwent Dragons with a 3.00 kick off on the very day that the Six Nations kicks off.
So we have to compete with Scotland v Wales which kicks off at 2.25 and England v France which has that daft start time of 4.50.
Games against Welsh sides are normally tasty, but given those other attractions and the fact that Newcastle Falcons won 18-6 at Dragons at the weekend you cannot see many making the trip across the Severn.
We seem to be in possession of a short straw.
