The 22-16 scoreline was just about right. It is six years since we last won at Kingston Park - a ground noted for its biting wind and forward battles. Fortunately the weather was positively balmy and there's no doubt Falcons will earn some points there in the depths of winter ...

If we are to achieve anything this season it will be done on the backs of performances like this.

It didn't start well with Falcons scoring a rare try -  Mike Blair sending in ain Will Welch and then we lost  Dan Murphy to a leg injury.

We swapped a couple of penalties before Gloucs got in the game. Simpson-Daniel came into the line and timed his out to Cook on the right. Cowan and Morgan took the ball on before Cook was sent in at the corner.

The full-back set up, Jimmy Cowan tried for the tryline – and Morgan broke blind to send Cook over in the right corner.

It was 13-8 to the home side at the interval but we began the second half in much better fashion.

Burns slotted a penalty  and then Simpson-Daniel joined the line once again to set up Jonny May in the left corner. momentum.

We then gave away a pen under the posts to make it 16-16 and all to play for.

Burns got us back in front with an excellent pen and he did it again form the touchline after Falcons infringed as we droive from a lineout.

The points difference was less than a converted try so the home side put plenty of effort in during the closing minutes.

It was desperate stuff as we knocked on to set up a real battle on the line. In the end  we managed to hold Warren Fury up over the line and the ref blew the whistle.

Phew.
