Revenge vital for Glaws after Quins treble

Rory L - ambitious

Some people would have you believe that ther Premiership points are far more important than any question of revenge when Harlequins visit Kingsholm on Saturday night. Wrong.

Yes, the points ARE important, but after losing three times to Quins this season, the cherry and whites really should be desperate to put the record straight.

They were hammered 42-6 at The Stoop way back in September, then lost 28-9 at home in the Heineken Cup in November before the 20-14 result in the HC return at the Stoop last month.

With a points aggregate score of 90-29 against them in those three games, Glaws should produce the right reaction and bust a collective gut to put things right against the Premiership’s leaders, who can be expected to be just as desperate to strengthen their hold on the leadership.

Glaws have gradually been improving in recent weeks, and last weekend’s win at Bath will do their morale no harm at all as they go into the Quins game.

Glaws still have top four ambitions, and scrum half Rory Lawson says the Bath win strengthened the team’s top four credentials.

He told the Citizen: "We've got that ambition for a reason, because we truly believe we're good enough for that. But now we've got to take that belief to a new level, and carry the conviction through.

"That mid-table is pretty tight, so that win was vital. It gives us the platform to have a crack at the top four, but nothing more.

"As ever we have to earn anything that could come our way, but we've got to harness this derby result and take that good feeling into the game against Harlequins on Saturday."

It’s a big occasion, and as big a game as Glaws are going to get in what remains of the season.

Win it and the cherry and whites really will be motoring.

Meanwhile, a second Scottish international will be leaving Kingsholm at the end of the season, following the news that Alasdair Strokosch will be heading for pastures new..

But it’s unlikely that hooker Scott Lawson will be following his international team-mate to France.. Instead, it’s thought he will be heading back to his former club Sale or home to Scotland when his contract expires in the summer.
