BR - no rant

Gloucester fans who witnessed last weekend's LV= demolition at Leicester, and perhaps many who didn't, might have expected coach Bryan Redpath to rip into his players before preparing for this weekend's return to the Premiership.

But he didn’t, because while he believes there are times for such a reaction, this situation demands that he holds back.

The players didn’t do themselves justice at Welford Road, and Redpath clearly feels that they don’t need him to tell them that.

Redpath told the Citizen: "Sometimes I do change bits, but you can't change what you are.

“I've had to gauge and balance my feelings, my emotions on myself, rather than impose them on players. That maybe then creates a little bit of anxiety and pressure.

"So sometimes you have to swallow it up and say 'right, this is not the right time or place to be talking or be getting angry.'

"At Sale, at half-time there was no point me being constructive and being sat on the fence, it was time for me to be brutally honest at half-time and again at the end of that game.

"That doesn't mean it won't raise its ugly head again, because that's the nature of sport.

"If we could have a picture-perfect game on everything then I'm sure that would be easy for everyone, but we certainly don't."

Glaws are at home to Saracens as the Premiership returns on Saturday, and Redpath admits: "Unless we produce a marked improvement, Saracens will put us under a great deal of pressure.

"So we've got to step up again, but the players are aware of that and we know what we need to do to make that happen."

The cherry and whites are a totally different proposition at Kingsholm to the one that has hit some level of consistency on the road ... consistent defeats.

Redpath has a full squad to choose from against Sarries, injuries apart, and hopefully that will make a difference at the weekend, and – perhaps more importantly – away to Exeter a week later.

He might not shout and scream at them, but I hope he at least mentions the Leicester game.
Or was it just a bad dream?
