Glaws away-day blues getting worse

EFP - back next week?

He might have spent much of the World Cup as Jonny Wilkinson's unwilling understudy and a frusrated England spectator, but Toby Flood has come back home to put on a performance that sugests that the white No.10 shirt is now his.

What a pity it was Gloucester who were at the receiving end as Leicester put their sorry start to the season behind them with a 40-14 LV= Cup demolition of the cherry and whites at Welford Road.

The Tigers pack dominated and Flood pulled the string as Leicester skated to a win that was just as easy as the scoreline suggests – and Glaws haven’t won an away game for eight months, a shocking statistic for a team with their pedigree and their ambition.

Glaws scored tries via Dan Murphy and Lesley Vainikolo, but the return of World Cup players helped Leicester far more than it did Glaws.

“They dominated the set pieces,” admitted coach Bryan Redpath. “If you give that away like we did, before you know it you are out of the game.

“Second half we stemmed the tide a little bit, but not enough. We have to do better up front, and in the backs we have players who can come back maybe next weekend.

“Today just wasn’t our day.”

Names like Sharples, Simpson-Daniel, Tindall and Fuimaona-Sapolu will hopefully figure in Redpath’s pre-match thoughts as he builds up for a return to Premiership rugby next weekend, at home to Saracens.

Losing an LV= Cup game is not the end of the world, but it’s also a long way from solving the Glaws travel sickness. It’s now reached the proportions that suggest it could ruin their season.
