Gloucester can go into the resumption of the Premiership next weekend full of confidence after what tuned out to be virtually a walkover win over London Irish took them into the semi-final of the LV=Cup. But they can’t afford to think they’ll all be as easy as this – including Irish’s next trip to Kingsholm for a Premiership game in a fortnight.

Surely they can’t be as bad as they were in this 41-8 defeat again, can they?
Glaws simply blew them away, scoring five first-half tries to turn the second half into a no-contest.
It must have been sheer hell for Ryan Lamb, returning to his old haunts to kick a pen for Irish, but to spend much of the rest of the game being jeered.
Glaws scored seven tries in all, two from Charlie Sharples and one each for Tim Molenaar, Jim Hamilton, Olly Morgan and Akapusi Qera plus a penalty try, with Nicky Robinson converting two and Freddie Burns one.
The Premiership returns with a visit to London Wasps next weekend followed by Irish’s follow-up visit, Northampton away and Bath at home. Then comes the home LV= semi in mid-March.
Assistant coach Carl Hogg told the BBC: "We knew if we won today it would give us the opportunity to have a semi-final at home.
"Over the last two years we have been difficult to beat at Kingsholm so in front of a full crowd, that is something we will relish.
"We played into the wind first half and stuck to our structure very well. We pretty much ran error free for 40 minutes and we took our opportunities.
"I thought defensively we were very sound, and I was pleased with the effort, especially in the first half."
Pleased he and boss Bryan Redpath must have been, but they will surely temper their delight with a warning – not many teams play as badly as Irish did here. Yes, you can only play as well as the opposition allow you to play, and thet first half from Glaws was pretty awesome, but Irish contributed massively to their own downfall with a poor, at times gutless, performance.
Glaws, on the other hand, just might be on a roll at just the right time - with 223 points in the last five games, it's difficult disagree with that, surely.

Ok, I agree, we were shoite. That was no reason to nick the London Irish flag from the rail on the West Terrace (you know who you are, you were stood beside me all game, then mysteriously disappered with your trophy as soon as the final whistle went.) I'll be back Friday week and will try and bring a rugby team with me so at least we can give you a game.
