Favourable key decisions 

It could be argued England got on the right side of some key decisions made by the referee in the second half. The first came in the 67th minute when Jordan Pickford rushed out of his goal and collided with Ghana striker Prince Adu who was through on goal. Pickford missed the ball completely however he was luckily awarded the free kick and not booked. The second decision came in 79th minute when Adu was once again put through on goal and was caught by Konsa who committed a clear foul and Ghana will aggrieved to not have been awarded the foul. Decisions go for and against teams in different matches, and the Three Lions will feel fortunate with decisions going for them in this game. 

Left side changes 

It could be argued some changes are needed on England’s left side for their next game against Panama. Tuchel opted for Gordon on the left wing however he hasn’t pulled up any trees in the first two games of the tournament, in which he has started both. If fit, Rashford could start in that position and Tuchel may also go for O’Reilly at left back, who came close near the end with a header that hit the crossbar, before Kane blasted over the rebound. Spence wasn’t bad though, and his refusal to shake Thomas Partey’s hand before kick-off has my respect. 

Lack of creativity 

Ghana went for a low block,in order to soak up England pressure and spring on the counter attack. It worked well, with the Black Stars making six blocks and 39 clearances throughout the match. England had 79% possession but could only muster up three shots on target andfailed to have a sustained period of pressure on the Ghana goal until late in the match. This game highlighted the lack of a creative midfielder such as Foden or Palmer, both of whom didn’t make Tuchel’s 26-man squad. The hope is as England progress, they will play more attacking-minded sides, however I wouldn’t be surprised to see Panama mirror Ghana’s tactics in the final group stage game. 

Still in a strong position 

England are still in a favourable position to top the group going into the third and final group stage game. They need to beat already eliminated Panama to potentially top the group, and hope Ghana don’t beat Croatia comfortably. The Three Lions seem to like to draw their second group stage game in recent tournaments and will need a win against Panama to get sceptical fans back on side.
