After last week I expect another big win. Chiefs 48 Hartbury 17 Not sure how much we really learn from this but with Tom Foley refereeing it will be interesting seeing how many penalties we give away.

This team selection tells me that we're clearly going to target the Cup, and I think we should.
We're in a decent group this year and with a win already behind us, this should be another step forward.

Subjective truth, I must clarify kindly.
Could you please tell me who you support, by the way? And, whoever it may be, has that team experienced a rough patch?
That's what Exeter are experiencing right now, so winning games - regardless of competitions and tournaments - is incredibly important for morale and belief.
Could we field a group of players wet behind the ears and desperate for game time? Absolutely, but our core squad have endured six consecutive losses. They are only just starting to know that winning feeling again.
I'm sure the last thing you'd want is fans from other clubs kicking you when you're down.

Do we really have to put up with this @#$%&? He never posts anything constructive or interesting, he isn't remotely entertaining or amusing, he is clearly just trying to irritate other people on the forum and its pretty obvious that that is never going to change.
Im all In favour of good natured rivalry, amusing banter and constructive criticism but this is nothing of the sort. I actually doubt that he has any interest in rugby at all.

I do find the selection disappointing and totally against the spirit of the competition, historically we have always used the prem cup as a development opportunity which has paid dividends but now we just want to hammer a championship team, hardly a good watch for spectators. Also risking needless injuries to key players when huge games are on the horizon

I wonder how Bailey, James and Coen must feel, win the U20 World Cup and don’t get any exposure to men’s rugby in the only development competition- stupid by the coaches imo. Bailey in particular who is a specialist lock and we play a flanker there who has struggled all season at lock. I just don’t get it. Is it just me?

Team looks good so its 56 - 10 for me but I have to say their is bigger tests to come.

Personally I dont have a problem if the club has decided to target this competition in order to get the players back into a winning frame of mind.
Most Premiership clubs have done it, with this competition and the LV Cup etc over the years, especially if they were struggling in the Premiership. Its daft that competition rules don't set down some hard and fast markers about who is and who isn't eligible to play, but they dont and there it is.
Beyond that, I find it mildly amusing that a lot of the recent criticism of the club has maintained that most of our squad are substandard and 'not of Premiership quality'. And then go on to criticise the club for selecting these players in the 'sub Premiership' competition. You can't have it both ways...
The solution would be to set out in the competition rules what its for and who is and isn't eligible to participate.

If sacrificing these games leads to a winning return to the premiership and some feel good for club, players and supporters it's worth it. Even for the players who missed this chance. Can't be great trying to learn and develop in a team being that's under a cloud week in week out.

Hi Andy15.1 I agree with your views on the team selected. I agree especially that watching a one side game is generally a poor spectacle. In the Pirates game I posed similar views and StanWilks gave the counter argument with which most posters agreed. We shall see the result of these matches soon enough and whether the squad is refreshed and reinvigorated when the prem returns. It will be either an opportunity lost to look at others in the squad - my belief - or an excellent tactic which results in us winning some prem games.

Except thats not actually true though is it? I mean I know that you love posting bolleaux on here in a pathetic and puerile attempt to wind people up, but that doesn't mean that people shouldn't call out some of the downright lies that you post which are so easily disproved.
Why don't you, for example, check the starting Exeter XV in each of the first matches of of the Premiership Rugby Cup from its inauguration in the 2018-19 season to the present and post them on here.
And then we can have a serious discussion. You won't of course, because it will demonstrate once again that you are full of feculence.
We don't have to go back far, your last couple of Prem Cup games of the previous season you fielded the likes of Sio, Painter, Pearson, Vermeulen, Devoto, Yeandle, Dunne, Roots, Slade, Skinner etc

Don't be fooled by the scoreline, Hartpury had a number of players playing for Gloucester and we were poor, lots of errors.

None of the cricket scores in some of todays games are a benefit to the Championship teams

Bath 78-19 (even if it was a depleted Bears)
Other results were acceptable but it’s not a great advert for the overall competition

Big negative point the number of pens and our breakdown play. I hope Vermeulen is not injured. A large points score without much conviction IMO. I do find it very difficult to enthuse about matches where the result is almost a forgone conclusion and I think many in the crowd felt like that as the atmosphere at Sandy Park was pretty flat.

Agreed. Atmosphere was very flat with a small crowd well spread out around the ground. Probably half the 8445 official attendance. Good to see Wyatt again, Hodge, Fisilau and Rigg all played well.

What makes the Sarries and Bath results 'unacceptable' given both side's played their kids/reserve players?
There's only one poor advert for the competition, and it's your result/team selection.
Only new thing yesterday was the debut of Tua and I must say his offloading was a joy to watch, let’s hope it’s not coached out of him. Penalty count too high and breakdown struggles continue even against lower opposition. Too one sided to get excited about tbh.

The facts that we are still struggling, have a new defence coach, very few players in foam, no game next week and a team that looks like it only just meet means we had to go with the first team. Hard to see where many other wins are going to come from this season.

Credit to Hartpury they gave us a match to start with, took us about 15 minutes to really get going. Took care of business after that though. Does that garuntee us a spot in the quarter finals already? Not sure but just great to see the guys winning again.

Keep playing your Premiership team in a development competition and you'll be fine for making the quarter finals, don't worry.
One player for Hartbury who stood out in the game for me was Jarrard Hayler their no 8. With a retreating scrum he repeatedly broke the gain line picking the ball up at the base which often saved the day for them. He also carried well in the loose. Not heard his name and got it from the named side. He is 29 and I am a bit surprised he is not in a prem side. Probably at less than 15 stone considered too light but our back row did not stop his momentum from the retreating scrum.

Well watching England the handling errors and missed passes were only marginally better than Chiefs. All the teams do it just we are over critical due to our position, playing a team together as a group regularly for the first time this season will grow cohesion so a good use imho.
People must remember that Bath and and Leister if it weren’t for technicalities could have been demoted at least twice. We will be above this position and must use every method to do so.
