Preseason started on Saturday with the visit of Scarlets to Sandy Park....

And so it begins...

Preseason started on Saturday with the visit of Scarlets to Sandy Park and what turned out to be more of a full contact training session for the Chiefs who ran out 45 - 3 victors.  

It was great to be back in The Library on a lovely warm and sunny day with a chance to see most of the Chiefs squad in action.  The ease with which the Chiefs dispatched the Scarlets reminded me of preseason games versus Pirates and showed a huge gulf between what the teams had to offer.  Both sides were without their International players and Scarlets had clearly brought more of a development side with the addition of some more seasoned players.  However the intensity and desire shown by all 30 Chiefs players on show was great to see.  Some of the handling reminded me of that shown by our 7's players and certainly bodes well for the upcoming season as did the performance of those Academy players on show.

Ulster visit next week and I expect them to pose a different challenge and I think Rob Baxter willl tweek a few things and maybe start to introduce some of our Internationals.  I can't wait to see them in action.

Absolutely right Moorsman, I think Ulster will be several steps up from the Scarlets side. Not least because time is slipping away before the season kicks off for them as well as us. I find it interesting to see how differently teams approach pre-season but all have the same goal which is to be prepared from the first minute of the season kicking off. The added bonus this coming week is that we've got to play them in the Champions Cup. Really looking forward to this coming weekend. Hopefully the weather will be just as kind as it was on Saturday.
