Chiefs go 2nd in Prem

Chiefs win for the first time at Franklins Gardens and go 2nd in the Aviva Premiership.

Unfortunately I couldn't make this fixture as Franklins Gardens is my favourite away venue.  This is even though I have never seen the Chiefs win there a situation which still remains.  How frustrating that the match was not on TV and I couldn't listen to the game.  However Mark Steven's did a great job keeping me in touch via Twitter.  I must say I was not full of hope even though Saints were missing players to the Autumn Internationls.  After all they had handled this situation before and were still able to put out a side full of very good players, Myler, Fowden, Manoa etc.  But I should have more faith in our sides ability to deliver a good performance against any side.  In fact there appears to be an extra level of steel and belief in the Chiefs players this season.  Our line speed can stifle the best of attacks and this keeps us playing on the front foot.  When opportunities arise we're making the most of them with speedy decision making and clinical execution.  

It's difficult picking out individuals when the team is functioning so well as a unit but having watched the game via the Prem Rugby site I'm going to pick out three.  Firstly Luke Cowan-Dickie, in as a late substitute for Jack Yeandle, who has been in great for this season.  Well you'd never have known he wasn't the first choice hooker.  His throwing was good, he scrummaged well and his work around the park and at the breakdown was really effective,  Take a bow Luke.

Next up is another of the Chiefs 'young guns', Sam Hill.  He may not be the biggest centre around but he must be one of the best in the Prem at this time.  He's always busy, be it in attack or defence where he is equally effective.

Finally and probably most obviously Thomas The Tank Waldrom.  What can you say about this guy that hasn't already been said?  Not only does he seem to be enjoying himnself at the Chiefs he's amongst the top try scorers in the league!  No doubt he'll live a long time on his interception and running the whole length of the pitch to score!!  He's brought the sort of authority to the number 8 shirt that Richie Baxter had and he'll be sharing this with the next batch of Baxter's young guns.

Next up for the Chiefs is a game against Wasps at Sandy Park.  I can't wait as it should be a cracker.
