Little Miss Chief enjoys reviewing Chiefs win v London Welsh
THE CHIEFS RAMPAGED THROUGH OXFORD
When I offered to write a preview and review of the 1st rugby game of the new season away to Welsh, little did me, or probably any of us know that we were in for a record breaking performance, with lots of firsts to celebrate.
But before I talk about the match, I wanted to say WOW at the players’ bus. The very kind bus driver allowed me and a few others to see inside he players’ bus, and I have to say it was very impressive. Our boys really are travelling in style. Oh and having never seen inside Doris, I got to see her too. I could not resist taking a selfie inside Doris!
Ok back to on field action. I mentioned that this was a match of firsts, well here we go.
Let’s start with our very only little pocket rocket, Jack Arnott, who within the 1st minute of coming off the subs bench during the 2nd half on his debutant start in the premiership, scored his first premiership try, having chased and caught the beautiful up and under kick from Will Chudley, and sprinted unchallenged to the try line.
Other firsts were the centre partnership of Hilly and Sladey who tore up the midfield; first premiership appearance and try for Botha, and 1st premiership appearances in a Chiefs shirt for Alex Caldwell (who went on to take man of the match), Mitch Lees, Elvis Taione, Moray Low, Tomas Francis and not forgetting Thomas “the tank engine” Waldrom, scoring the first 2 tries as a Chief.
I tweeted Sam Hill during the game to congratulate him on his 1st premiership try too; however, I have been reliably informed that this was in fact his 2nd, his first being at Worcester last season. Still, what a cracking 2nd ever premiership try, having 1st tackled Molanaar then ripping the ball out of his hands and running uncontested to the try line. Nice one!
This was the 1st ever premiership match where Chiefs have scored more than 50 points in a match and is also the 1st time Chiefs have prevented the opposition from getting any points, and I believe that we have also broken the premiership record of number of metres gained in a match at over 700.
Whilst Chiefs ran rampant in Oxford, let’s not get carried away. This was a very impressive and clinical performance by our youngsters, however, next week’s match against Tigers will not produce the same score line. But, if we defend and attack like we did this week, then there is no reason why we can’t get the same result against the visiting Tigers.
For now: WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE! A moment to savour and one happy Chief is now signing off!

Time for a pipe of Old Toby!
Not wanting to be pedantic, or take away from a great result, but we actually shut out London Irish at home last season! First time we've done it on road though.

Thank you. I wasn't certain about this stat. But pleased we still have a first intthe zero score line away.
