Saturday's Sunday's loss to Bath ended Exeter Chiefs involvement in this season's LV= Cup so what can we take from it?  To start with the game itself Rob Baxter can certainly take some very positive indications from the performance of so many Academy players.  Indeed there were 7 on the pitch come the final whistle and whilst a few had little involvement all gained valuable experience of playing against some very strong Bath players.  Bur Rob isn't happy just to invoilve players he wants them to play well, whatever the game.  He was a little disappointed with some of the play and felt we could have controlled the game better.  What he was happy about was the commitment and endeavour shown by these youngsters who should be pushing for a regular Premiership start in the next couple of years. 

I'm not going to single out players but it's great to see their development via these matches and regular game time on dual registration.  What is also great is to see the likes of Chris Budgen teaming up with these youngsters to help bring them on.  At 39 he's definately old enough to be father! but he'll treat them as team mates and share his experience and enthusiasm for the game with relish.  The LV is derided as the "Little Value" cup but if it's used to bring on young players and game time for those returning from injury it can be worth an awful lot.

Unfortunately we lost the game on Sunday too ( ) ,but as with the game on Saturday, the youngsters gained valuable experience.

I thought the LV Cup was supposed to be a competition where clubs could blood young players and ease back first team players coming back from injury. Chiefs and the other teams we have faced seem to adhere to this principal. Bath, I believe see the competition as a route to sivlerware and qualification to the Heineken next season and fielded a virtually full strength squad against us and Northampton.
Oh well, lets see how they fare against our first choice squad later this month!

I bet the youngsters learnt alot more in this game than they have in any other
