Exeter Chiefs supporters enjoy meeting the players and coaches on the latest Family Open Day. Report plus photos and interviews.

OPEN DAY IS A REAL HIT WITH CLUB SUPPORTERS

The buzz of life in the Aviva Premiership has already hit Exeter Chiefs supporters, who descended in their droves to Sandy Park for the club’s annual Open Day.

With the chance to not only get up close and personal with Rob Baxter and his squad for the 2010/11 season, punters were also able to get the rare chance to look behind-the-scenes at the club, have their photograph taken with the RFU Championship trophy, as well as carry out a number of on-field activities.

Squad members – including all of Baxter’s summer signings – helped supporters of all ages to experience life as a modern-day player by assisting them in fun-filled drills such as line-out throwing and lifting, kicking golf, speed tests, tackling and goal-kicking to name but a few.

Also in attendance on the day was the club’s very own mascot ‘Big Chief’ – whilst there was the opportunity to sign up for the Junior Chiefs, the club’s youth section, as well as the chance to become a Friend of Exeter Rugby Club.

Community manager Keith Fleming said: “We have been running our Open Day for a number of seasons now and this was without doubt the best yet. Each year it seems to get bigger and bigger and looking at the crowds we had this year, I think we can definitely say this was the best attended yet.

“From the moment we opened the gates at 11am the flow of people was pretty constant. The tours – as always – were very popular, but the activities out on the pitch also proved really popular with everyone.”

Lorna who is one of the Chiefs stalwart stewards took to the heights but told me she was really pleased to feel solid ground again!!

 

Young Cameron ends up in reigns!

The Chiefs new Communications Manager, Mark Stevens showed that he is more than comfortable with a microphone and conducted a series of mini-interviews with players and coaches.  There was also a reporter from the company who manage Aviva's advertising present and he interviewed members of the board, coaching staff and me.  He was really impressed by the open, friendly and welcoming reception he was given by all.

It was great to meet some regulars from The Tribe message board and put faces to names as well as accepting their money for this seasons Player Sponsorship.

The Tribe had it's own roving reporter and here are a few interviews he conducted on the day (thanks Charlie).  There's a strong focus on youth rugby that reflects a lot of the activity during the Open Day with youngsters signing up to the youth section.

Let me know how you found downloading and listening to the interviews. This is a first attempt and I will be looking to simplify the listening experience.
