A goal from Gillingham club captain Ian Cox and a brace from Gillingham team captain Mike Flynn ensured The Gills earnt all three points at The Priestfield in which was a relatively dull game. Gillingham.3.2.Port Vale

In a extremely boring first half with very few chance, The Gills got the first of the five goals scored at Priestfield seven minutes from the interval when Ian Cox found the net from Nicky Southall's corner kick.

Just before the half time whistle was blown Danny Spiller missed a brilliant opportunity to double The Gills' lead. Eight yards out from goal Spills somehow managed to blaze over the crossbar.

Gary Mulligan was then brought off to be replaced by Dean McDonald having picked up a knock.

Gillingham's lead was then doubled within minutes after the restart when Mike Flynn headed his 11th goal of the season, heading home from Clint Easton's cross.

Flynn then got his brace when his fine free kick found the back of the net.

Port Vale then scored an impressive goal to give them a shout when Danny Whittaker's long-range effort beat Simon Royce in the Gills goal. So good, it even earned applause from Gillingham fans.

Ben Chorley was then adjudged to have fouled Luke Rodgers inside the box and Leon Constantine converted from the spot.

The Gills held on to take them into 13th in the table.
