Brighotn moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Rotherham at the Withdean stadium. Second half goals from Paul Hurst (own goal) and Bobby Zamora gave the seagulls victory as Brighton ran out deserved winners. Brighton started the first half the stronger team and had the ball in the net early on when Zamora crossed the ball in from the left wing and Rougier volleyed it past Pollitt from the edge of the area. But the goal was ruled out because the ball had passed the line before Zamora crossed it. Zamora continued to work hard down the left wing but with little re-ward, as there was no one in the box to turn in his crosses. As the first half progressed Brighton had many good opportunities but poor crossing from Kerry Mayo and Simon Rodger left the score goalless at the break. Rotherham barley tested Brighton keeper Beasent as they wasted good opportunities to score.

Brighton then took the lead 10 minutes in to the second half, when Rougier’s strike was saved by Pollitt but the ball then flew in to the net off Paul Hurst for an own goal. Rotherham again wasted good opportunities and were made to pay when Zamora made it two with a backpost volley form a Rodger corner. Rotheham did come back into the game late on as substitute Richard Barker hit the post from a Paul Wane free kick but they were unable to beat Beasent in the Brighton goal.
