Sri Lanka came out on top after a close finish and a promising Marcus Trescothick performance put the game in our hands. Needing 164, England finished on 162-5 but Trescothick went for 72 when 12 were needed from the last nine balls. Before the game began England watched the world cup match on the big screens. Although their performance wasn't the best England fans were waiting to see if the England cricket team could continue the winning ways.
Steve Harmison was back and looking quite good considering his absence but shortly after the start Jayasuria scooped a ball down to third man and underneath it was new man Ed Joyce. But he dropped the catch and fell awkwardly on his ankle and called for imediate attention. He was rushed to hospital and luckily showed no break or dislocation.
After a lengthy break the game resumed but Sri Lanka dominated for a long while until none other than Paul Collingwood made the break through bowling Tharanga after he inside edged it on to his own stumps.
England managed to get Sri Lanka all out but England started their innings slowly with Strauss and Trescothick opening.
Strauss got out playing across the line and then Tressy and Pietersen made a steady partnership before he got out.
Trescothick eventually fell near the end but this was a disappointment as England now looked likely to lose.
With two balls to go England needed 6 to win but the game ended as a Sri Lankan victory.
