After a shocker at home last weekend, Albion travel to bottom-placed Blaydon this weekend. The first of two games before the "half-term" break against teams which have struggled from the off , it is vital that they rediscover the form that allowed them to nose ahead of Richmond and Fylde. If the team are to avoid the tag of "also rans" in this league, then now is the time to win by a few lengths and scoop a so far elusive 4T bonus.
Blaydon have not won since the opening day of the season against Blackheath. They enjoyed a good start last Saturday against Richmond, having put 10 unanswered points on the board at half time - but the Londoners got back into the game and scored 19 points to leave them with nothing.
Albion make their longest excursion of the league campaign to the North East where the opposition can draw on Falcons Academy players as well as County/England Counties players. Blaydon RFC was formed in 1888 and for many years was based at The Racecourse. They have since moved to Crow Trees and developed the ground into a well equipped site with floodlights and banqueting facilities. It was the home of Mickey Skinner and Stephen Bainbridge, who were regulars in the national side. They have been in Nat 1 for almost 10 years.
We must come into this game by putting the poor showing against Esher firmly behind us. With injuries and the Defence "World Cup" still dictating our starting line-up, it will be vital that the team are settled and don't allow the all too frequent early reversals which end up dominating proceedings. Albion travelled yesterday and should be relaxed and rested for a game that appears to be evenly fancied.
