This round should have marked the formal halfway point of the Championship, but with the extra fixture this year (DH @ Sandy Park - keep up!) we won't have played everybody once in the league until Leeds at home just after the New Year. With all the festivities, it is spread out over 2 weekends and the intermediate week (the nine days of Christmas?) - and then the next round starts before this one is actually finished! What with some clubs taking weekends off, it's all a bit messy until the Cup resumes in mid-January.

The Albion Christmas fixture this year is an away derby game with the Pirates on Boxing Day. You’ll recall that this is the same as last year (but at Brickfields) when there was much moaning about lack of public transport and clashes with family gatherings, etc. It looks as though the Cornish cousins have got their own back. Hopefully, both clubs will see the light next year, cease this pointless excision of noses and set a date to cash in on the biggest crowd puller of the season.

Just to refresh your memories, the Pirates are sixth in the standings. They may be the lowliest of the “top table” (just one place above us), but they are much better off; six wins to their credit and 10 points the richer. They are also through to the knock out stages of the B&I, having beaten Jersey home and away after a recent league mugging by the Islanders in the dying minutes. They have managed to triumph twice where we failed against Bristol. That said, their performance against lesser opposition has been variable, with closer scores and a draw or an LBP ceded. In true derby spirit though, the form book will count for less as old scores are there to be settled and both sides will aim to ruin the other’s Yule.

Anyway, here is the list for the early part of the holiday period:

Sat 21 Dec

London Welsh v London Scottish   14:30     The Kassam Stadium

Ealing Trailfinders v Bristol Rugby   15:00   Trailfinders Sports Club

Moseley v Jersey   15:00   Billesley Common

Thu 26 Dec

Rotherham Titans v Bedford Blues   14:00   Clifton Lane

Cornish Pirates v Plymouth Albion   15:00   The Mennaye

Sat 28 Dec

Leeds Carnegie v Nottingham   15:00   Headingley

Who will benefit from earlier games or suffer from post-Xmas hangovers? Do the Cup results count for anything? Cast your beady eye over the lot and let the world know your thoughts...

A pity about the game being on Boxing day, we normally go down to Pirates but because of family commitments that's a no goer this year.
Any date other then the 26th we could have been there.

Boxing day results:

Rotherham Titans 35 - 6 Bedford Blues

Cornish Pirates 10 - 3 Plymouth Albion

Xmas swag seems to come in the form of a dog-eared book token for Albion. Still, a point is a point - and it does the job in terms of damage limitation. Just one game to go on Sat.
