Pompey Denied Extra Tickets For Latics Clash

Greater Manchester Police have refused Latics to allow Portsmouth an extra 5,000 seats for this weekend’s fixture at the JJB.

With the away end full to capacity (5,200), the relegation-threatened south coast club requested a further allocation, but this unfortunately had to be turned down on police instruction.

"I would love to give Portsmouth another 5,000 (tickets) but there is no chance”. said Latics chairman Dave Whelan. “We asked Greater Manchester Police if we could do it but they have said no”.

"They say Portsmouth fans have to be in one stand and that's it. They won't budge an inch and we can't do anything but pass on our apologies. I feel sorry for them (the supporters). I wish they could come."
