Paul Jewell looks to have secured the swedish centre half in his first January signing albeit on loan until the end of the season. The young centre half is reported to have been a top target of Jewell's young squad for a while. Granqvist who stands at 6ft 3in was currently Helsingborg's club captain and has already secured one international cap for his country and is also rated as one of sweden's hottest properties, with Liverpool, Celtic and PSV also tracking his career forthwith. Jewell is said to be delighted with the forthcoming signing admitting "he's a player we have been keeping tabs on for some time and has impressed greatly in training.

Granqvist will remain at Latics until the end of the season, and they will keep an eye on his progress within the team to maybe look at a permanent move to the JJB.

Granqvist admits "It has always been a dream for me to move to England and play in the Premiership and I am thrilled to have sorted out the move"

The centre half has spoken with Andreas Johansson who has told him of the great team spirit at Wigan and the will to win and succeed.

Hopefully this will be the first of many re-inforcements in the January window, after-all it's always good to be spoilt for choice.
