With a stunning performance, Robert Kubica secured second position on the starting grid for the Canadian Grand Prix. Nick Heidfeld also displayed improved qualifying form and finished eighth. Business as usual in the first knockout phase of qualifying: Neither Robert nor Nick encountered any major problems on the way to qualifying for the second leg of the session. Robert did so on his first timed lap by crossing the line in 1:17.471 minutes, thus claiming sixth position. Nick seemed to be on the way to clock a similar time on his first flying lap but lost time in the final sector. Therefore, the German was forced to complete a second flyer, which put him in 11th place, with a 1:18.082-minute lap. The fastest time (1:16.909 minutes) was set by McLaren's Lewis Hamilton.

Eliminated: Sébastien Bourdais, Adrian Sutil, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel (did not contest the session due to damaged car).

Once again, Robert easily made it to the top-ten shoot-out. The Pole went out on the supersoft compound and qualified for the final leg by clocking a personal best time of 1:17.679 minutes. Nick contested his first stint on the soft compound but couldn't set a lap time good enough for a top-ten result. Therefore, he pitted for the supersofts and rejoined the action to finish eighth, thanks to a 1:17.781-minute lap. Hamilton once again proved to be the quickest, posting a time of 1:17.034 minutes.

Eliminated: Timo Glock, Kazuki Nakajima, David Coulthard, Jarno Trulli, Nelson Piquet.

In the top-ten shootout, Robert delivered in fantastic style to secure second position on the grid. The 23-year-old made his first assault on the soft compound. In the closing stages, however, he pitted for the supersofts and even took provisional pole position with his 1:18.498-minute lap. Seconds later however, he was beaten by Hamilton. Nick settled for eighth after setting a personal best time of 1:19.633 minutes.

In the race, starting on Sunday at 13:00hrs local time (18:00hrs BST), Robert will be in a promising position to keep in contact with the championship leaders. Nick also will have a good chance of adding more championship points to the team's tally.

Result: 1st Lewis Hamilton, 2nd Robert Kubica, 3rd Kimi Räikkönen, 4th Fernando Alonso, 5th Nico Rosberg, 6th Felipe Massa, 7th Heikki Kovalainen, 8th Nick Heidfeld, 9th Rubens Barrichello, 10th Mark Webber (did not contest the top-ten qualifying due to damaged car).
