In the second free practice session in Melbourne, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers completed an extensive programme without experiencing any problems whatsoever. Nick Heidfeld finished 12th, while Robert Kubica was 15th in the overall classification. .

It was a busy second practice session for the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, with Robert being the slightly busier of the pairing. Even the burning Australian midday heat, with temperatures reaching 38° C, didn't prevent the Pole from completing 35 laps. Nick made do with lapping the 5.303-kilometre "Albert Park Circuit" 31 times.

Nick and Robert both set their personal best times in the first half of the session on the softer tyre option provided by Bridgestone. In the closing stages of the session, however, while the major part of the field went out to set fast lap times, the BMW Sauber F1 Team preferred to complete long-runs as it continued its preparations for the race.

Nick finished 12th after setting a personal best time of 1:28.731 minutes on the third of his six stints, some 40 minutes into the session. Robert was fractions slower than his team-mate and finished the session 15th. The 23-year-old completed his fastest lap, which was clocked at 1:28.911 minutes, on his fourth stint.

In the third free practice session, held on Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:00hrs local time (00:00 to 01:00hrs GMT) the BMW Sauber F1 Team will complete the tyre evaluations and set-up work for the qualifying session and the race.
